Who they are

Jane's Castle is the closest any film has come to the comics' methodical grief: a man who moves into a condemned building, keeps a ledger, and spends the film ruining a family financially before he touches any of them. Jane later made a short film for nothing, in the same part, because he thought the character deserved better.

MAX

Ennis's adults-only run stripped out every super-villain and made the Punisher a war story: an old man who came back from Vietnam and never stopped. It is the version everything since has adapted, and it is much quieter than its reputation.

The Punisher #1–6, "In the Beginning" (2004), Garth Ennis and Lewis LaRosa
