Who they are

Taneleer Tivan runs a museum inside a severed Celestial head, staffed by servants he also collects, and he is the first character in the franchise to explain the Infinity Stones properly. His interest in the Aether and the Orb is professional; his handling of both is negligent in a way that has consequences for other people.

From the comics

One of the Elders of the Universe

In the comics Tivan is one of a handful of beings who survived the previous universe and filled the time with an obsession each — the Grandmaster games, the Gardener plants, the Collector everything. He began collecting because he foresaw a cosmic threat and wanted a seed bank; the museum is, in his telling, an ark.

The Avengers #28 (1966), Stan Lee and Don Heck; expanded through Marvel Two-in-One and Thanos Quest
