What it is
Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive and Cull Obsidian: four of the children Thanos raised, sent ahead of him to collect stones from Earth. Infinity War uses them as the film's mid-level threat and kills three of them; Endgame brings the 2014 versions back to die again.

Hickman created them for Infinity
The Black Order are recent: Hickman's 2013 event introduces them as Thanos's generals, each with a distinct cruelty. The films kept four of the five and their names, and gave them about a tenth of the screen time.
