Who they are
A Marine who came home, took his family to a park, and watched them shot in a mob crossfire he later learns was aimed at him. Frank is not written as an answer to anything; he is written as an argument Matt Murdock cannot win and cannot walk away from, and the show is careful to make him competent, sympathetic and completely unjustifiable at once.
