Who they are
Magneto is the best-argued villain in superhero cinema because his premise is historical rather than theoretical: he has already watched a state decide a category of people should not exist. Xavier asks him to trust that it will be different this time. He has excellent reasons not to, and the films keep proving him partly right, which is why the friendship never resolves.
