Who they are
Smith is having the time of his life, which is more than can be said for anyone else in the film: a man who has been dying since childhood, handed a cure with a price, and delighted to pay it. He dances. The character is invented for the film out of the comics' Hunger, and the dancing is the only thing anybody remembers.
