Who they are
Hardy plays both halves — a man arguing with his own chest in public — and the films are best understood as a romantic comedy about two creatures who cannot be apart and cannot behave. Three films of eating people, wrecking motorbikes and apologising, with a symbiote that wants to be a lethal protector and a host who mostly wants his job back.

Lethal Protector
The series that turned Venom from a Spider-Man villain into a franchise: Eddie moves to San Francisco, adopts the homeless population of the sewers and starts killing muggers. Sony's films are adapting this, not the Spider-Man run — which is why there is no Spider-Man in them.
