The place itself

Built on the vibranium meteorite that hit it in prehistory, Wakanda spent centuries pretending to be a poor agrarian country while its capital ran on maglev and its doctors reversed spinal injuries. T'Challa's decision to end the secrecy is the argument the whole film is about — and Killmonger's point is that the secrecy was itself a choice with a body count.
